CYCLING
2019 has held its usual ups and downs, ups and downs, ups and downs for cycling.
Competitions we have entered this year have included:
• Waikato and Bay Of Plenty Road Cycling
Championship
• North Island Road Championships
• The Northern Tour.
In the Waikato and B.O.P event earlier this year, Thomas Purdie came first for the Year 7 boys, and Billy Broughton came first in the Year 5/6 boys.
During the North Island Champs we had a boys' team trial enter and gained some valuable experience from the race.
Thursday racing with Hamilton City Cycling Club has continued and we’ve had several new additions to our weekly racing. Impressively the U15 category is dominated by current and past Southwell students.
Thomas Purdie won the bronze medal for the 2019 Summer Series.
As always we would like to extend a big thank you to the parents, caregivers and supporters of the cycling students.
A wheely big thank you to Karla Purdie and Kellie Pearson for their weekly help with the Year 7/8s - without them we wouldn’t be able to venture out of school grounds.
We look forward to another exciting year of cycling in 2020!
