CYCLING
Southwell Cycling 2020 has held more than its usual ups and downs this year.
Unfortunately many cycling events were cancelled this year due to Covid-19 restrictions. One event after another was cancelled - it was a real chain-reaction.
The avid riders were sad and upset they weren’t able to compete - the cancellation of events really messed with their cycle-ology.
Thursday racing with Hamilton City Cycling Club has continued and we’ve had many new additions to our weekly racing crew.
In the Term 1 Summer Series Thomas Purdie

won the gold medal, Oliver Fleming won silver and Billy Broughton won bronze in the Under 15 category.
We also competed in the Waikato / Bay of Plenty Time Trial Champs through the HCCC. Gabriella Schuitemaker won gold in the Women's Under 13, Billy Broughton won gold in the Men’s Under 13 and Oliver Fleming won bronze in the Men's Under 15.
As always we would like to extend a big thank you to the parents, caregivers and supporters of the cycling students.
A wheely big thank you to Karla Purdie, Megan Fleming, Jane Ganley and Jennie
Melville for their weekly help with the Year 7 and 8s. Without them we wouldn’t be able to venture out of school grounds.
We look forward to another exciting year of cycling in 2021!
