INLINE HOCKEY
2020 was a very disjointed year for Inline Hockey. Term 1 was only half completed. No games were played in Term 2, and Term 3 was interrupted also. This left Term 4 for our players to show their skills on the rink in School League.
Despite this, Inline Hockey is continuing to grow in popularity. Four teams were registered - Southwell Sabres, Scorpions, Saints and Sonics.
The Southwell Sabres played in the highly competitive 1st Division. They have worked well as a unit and got progressively better throughout the year. This team reached the nal for the division and nished in second place. This was an outstanding achievement.
The Southwell Scorpions played in Division 3. They had some highly competitive games and earned a place in the third place playoff. This was a tight game in which the Scorpions won by a single goal. It was pleasing to see this team showing determination and grit in all of their games.
The Southwell Saints played in Division 4 and this team was made up of new and beginning players. Despite their relative inexperience the team quickly learned the skills required, showing plenty of balance and speed around the rink and developed their passing and skating.
It was good to be able to eld a team in the Peewee division this year. The Southwell Sonics is made of younger players, from Year 2 to Year 4. In this division the team has been focusing on their skating and playing together as a team.
Outside of the School League, many players were selected into regional and inter- regional teams although these tournaments were cancelled. Well done to Charlotte Tam, Dylan Cassels, Ray Zhang, Alan Li, Jonathan Jiang and Raul Rathod for their club success.
We are looking forward to more success next year and would welcome new players keen to have a go.
