YEAR 8 CAMP
Nerves and excitement Shadowed over us like a giant.
The words Hillary Outdoors Pursuit Centre In bright orange letters, Extremely vibrant.
First day fun
Was a taster
Of life at camp,
We stayed local.
The wet weather gear was used, And socks got damp.
We flew through the air On the flying fox
And worked as a team
As we walked on water, Crossing the Tarawera stream.
Day 2 was a mighty task
The Tongariro Alpine Crossing, Waiting patiently for the next victim The wind wild and strong.
Some groups mounted the Crossing In joyful triumph,
While some groups
Had to ask
Is it safe to go on?
Day 3, the water was shining Canoes were waiting
To be chosen to glide, Across the water Beautiful and calming, Until we had to lug them Back to shore.
Adrenaline rushing Jumping off bridges, SPLASH!
Water carried us away 'Til safely on the shoreline. For some, a great day, But for some,
Their skin bright red And burning!
Each night activities That topped off the day, With a randomized game Run by instructors, Shouts of laughter, Heard through darkness.
The food was delicious,
Plenty of options,
Cereals, Weetbix, and something special Like French toast or pancakes! Dinner filled our bellies,
Ready for the next day.
Sooner or later
We had to say goodbye,
To the comfort of our rustic chalets, And tasty meals.
But why did it come so fast?
That night
We packed, Unpacked,
And packed again
For our overnighter
But of course, Another activity was in store.
Caving, a highlight for many, But a dislike for some.
We strapped on our helmets, And secured our head torches. We squeezed through tight spaces With some questionable names Like Pooh Bear’s Crack.
It was dark but magical.
We hiked to our overnighter, To our varying campsites The night ahead filled with Toasting marshmallows, Eating dinner by the fire, And a whole lot more fun.
Everyone was surprised That camp had come to an end But it was an experience
of a lifetime, Memories to treasure,
