From performing at Riverlea Theatre to hilarious jokes from Mrs Trenwith, the Southwell Chamber Ensemble has it all. This year, the Fantastique Four consisted of two violinists (Nurie Choi and Ray Zhang), a cellist (Ryan Koo) and a pianist (Shannon Yu.)
After flying off into a super start, gathering new music and choosing nicknames for each other (mine being Doofa) it was clear that we were ready for anything.
We started with Grandparents' Day, playing our three Michael McLean miniatures, our first official performance. After rehearsing every Friday lunch, we got to the time of the year when competitions were entered and we were more than prepared! We performed exceptionally, taking out the trophy for the twelve and under Chamber Music group. After the competition, we were asked to perform at Riverlea Theatre for a concert with many other amazing performers. It was a great experience for us and I am pretty sure we all enjoyed it.
But the performances kept coming! The Performing Arts Concert was coming up and we decided to play one of our personal favourites, Little Fandango, ending with a special “Hey!” Our performance at Prize Giving would be our final time playing beautiful music together. With people such as Mr Speedy and Chaplain walking onto the stage, we performed Pomp and Circumstance by the famous Edward Elgar.
Playing in the Fantastique Four has been the absolute bomb and it will be something that I will never forget (meaning I can show off to my fellow musicians.) Mrs Trenwith was the absolute best and the whole gang wishes you all the best for next year. It will definitely not be the same without you (for lots of reasons.)
