This was another good year for Durham.
We did well in most of the inter-house competitions this year. In Term 1 we won the inter-house swimming competition. This is an area where we traditionally do well and, with our current young swimmers, the future is looking good.
In Term 2 the inter-house Singing competition took up most of our time and energy. Despite our best efforts we could do no better than place fourth. Although, what we lacked in harmony we made up for in enthusiasm. Alex Liu’s haunting violin solo will stay with me a very long time. We came third in the Gymnastics competition. In the Lit Quiz we did very well and came in a very close second to Salisbury.
In the third term we had our Cross Country competition which Durham won and we came third in the winter House Sport competition. Finally, in the fourth term we had the Athletics competition where again Durham came a close second to Salisbury.
The main theme this year in our house meetings was that when one of us does well, we all do well. It is up to every single boy or girl to contribute in some way to Durham’s success. That contribution might be in winning an event or taking part in an event that you really don’t want to. If Durham is successful it is because it is expected of everyone in the house that you contribute to that success.
This is more obviously seen in the Citizenship Trophy competition. Our philosophy is the Power of One: one idea can make all the difference, and it has stood us in good
stead. We have won both the King Memorial Shield and the Citizenship Trophy. Alex and Elizabeth did a ne job as Heads of House.
I am so proud of the pupils and teachers in Durham and how they strive to be the very best they can be.

Mark Webb House Leader
We have really enjoyed our year as Durham’s house leaders. As a house,
we have performed very well, with much success, and we hope that Durham can continue to do so . We have had many ups and downs this year but as a house we co-operated and persevered to continue to do our very best.
Being in Durham house is an extremely good opportunity to meet new people and create new bonds and friendships. Every single pupil in our house has contributed to the success and well-being of Durham. House line-dancing was exceptionally impressive and it was good to see the entire house co-operating to do the best they could.
2018 has been a fabulous year for Durham house, although we haven’t won everything, but we will continue to strive to succeed. As Heads of House, we wish Durham the best of luck for the coming years!
