YEAR 7 CAMP : WATER FUN, TAURANGA
NAILED IT!
Togs, check! Lifejacket, check! Helmet, check! Confidence, ummm, not so sure!
Perched on the edge of the infamous Blob, butterflies were partying in my stomach. From the moment Dad was given permission to send me skyward, nerves and excitement were interrupting each other as the moment built in anticipation. The Wairoa River waited patiently, the moving current provided relaxation for my thoughts.
3... 2... 1...
Dad leapt, I flew!!! My stomach lurched from its resting place, I swear it nearly came out of my mouth!
Wind punched my face like I was a docile boxing bag.
Spaghetti-like arms and legs waved and wiggled around, unsure of what to do or where to be. High-pitched screams echoed through Waimarino as I flew through the air watching the world fly by. This was awesome!
As life has taught me, what goes up, must come down. I began my descent. Water was approaching fast. I searched for the instructions in my head but they could not be found. I established a panicked starfish position and prepared for landing.
Splat! I pulled off the master of all bellyflops!
Adrenaline pumped through me as I emerged from the water.
“Did you see that Dad?”
The smile on his face told me we had nailed it.

ROCK HOP
Do you really think I’d jump into deep water today? Having done Adrenalin Forest already, it was enough, I say! FLASH! We’re here! Hats and helmets to protect! JUMP! SPLASH! COLD! Doing okay, can we start yet? SWIM! CLIMB! Really? Again and Again! Is there anywhere with no pain? Finally, Yes! It’s done! Actually, it was fun! A lot has been said! Time for bed.
