                 YEAR 6 SYNDICATE
A finalist would go up the stairs nervously, say their speech, then trot back down. Now it was my turn. I stood up. My legs didn’t wobble. I tiptoed over to the bottom of the stairs. Deep breath. I climbed up the stairs. Deep breath. I walked to the centre of the stage. Deep. Breath.

Teamwork is one of the best qualities in life, and sport is where you can start from. Sport brings together a mixture of people from different communities, backgrounds, religions and beliefs. Sport can offer a new way to meet others that you may not interact with in day to day conversation.

As I sprinted up the stairs to look at the basketball teams, the tsunami inside my stomach roared louder than ever. I glanced up at the sport noticeboard, hoping to be placed on the top team, and there it was sitting peacefully on the noticeboard like nothing could have ever changed the outcome. Yes! I made it into the A team.

My face was enveloped with sweat, trickling down in every corner on my head. Heat was oozing throughout my entire body. It was time. Fear flooded my mind, the lines were fixed in it and wouldn’t budge. The different accents swam through my thoughts. It was my turn for auditions.

I felt the butterflies racing around in my stomach as I dived into the pool. Shivers ran down my spine as I started swimming. I swam until I could see the end of the pool in the distance, then I sprinted and touched the wall one hand after another.

Wow! 2021 threw a few Covid-19 curveballs at us! We spent a lot of Term 3 and Term 4 learning from home or at bubble school. Our teacher greeted us each morning with our daily plan and class Google Meet. We all worked super hard and overcame lots of challenges to successfully complete our learning tasks. We did miss each other heaps though.

Lockdown learning was cool. Of course it was disappointing that we were in lockdown, but lockdown was a new experience for me. Going to bubble school was something I had never done before and I never thought that something like this would happen. Overall lockdown was good and bad.

8am. My computer flicks on and my day begins. My inbox is flooded with emails from my teachers. All my stress compiled into one tab on a screen. But steady hangouts with my teachers and friends make the day more bearable. Virtual chapel, maths blookets, science with Ms Voss, running-on- the-spot in PE, pit sessions with Mrs Walch. Our teachers made learning fun and possible.

I remember waking up late in the morning, not having to change into my school uniform. It was only yesterday that I was at school. I got out my computer and began to go to school virtually. It was not the same for a long time.
