YEAR 5 SYNDICATE
CAMP
Epicly amazing is how I would describe camp.
Picture this, you and all of your friends are lying on the floor in their sleeping bags, watching a movie, while playing board games.
We also did the most fantastic mountain bike ever. I remember on that bike ride when we did massive skids on the dirt that will stay there for centuries.
My other favourite part about camp was actually just sleeping in my cabin. My cabin mates and I had a BLAST in our cabin. We stayed up really late and whenever a parent or teacher came we would quickly pull up the bed covers and they would eventually go away!
I loved camp so much and I still miss doing all of these things.

I love Southwell because there’s never a dull moment.
All the kids have never ending opportunities. Year 1-8 productions, Year 1-8 camps, instruments, and specialist classes.
There’s also things to audition for, like choirs, music groups, Opera and Year 6 pantomime.
I’ve always loved gymnastics so the gymnastics competition was a highlight for me.
Camp was soooooo fun. I find it so cool how the Year 1s and 2s get to do something fun instead of school while us older kids are away on camp.
We had a LOT of opportunities to challenge ourselves.
Chapel’s AMAZING because more people will come to know the Lord. I was brought up to love the Lord. Southwell is an AMAZING school.

LOCKDOWN
Lockdown was a real punch in the face for New Zealand but you should always stay optimistic. So I decided to make the most of it. For example, I got to do things that I wouldn't normally do.
There are always positives: I got to spend more time with my family. My sister and I made our own fun and I think we will remember those fun days forever. My sister was already great at cooking but she improved over this time. Luckily this rubbed off on me too. Pavlovas, waffles, burgers, pizza, smoothies, and lots of time to enjoy these.
In the mornings when I woke early (for school) and then remembered I didn't have to race out the door, it felt so good. The hangouts almost replaced talking to an actual human being. I missed my normal life though and when I got the news that we were going back to school I could not have been happier. I could finally get to see my friends again.
Overall lockdown had its highs and lows, but it made up for it when we got to go to school.

I enjoy Southwell because of all of the opportunities for us younger children and the older ones.
I feel like Southwell is the best school for young, enthusiastic learners because Southwell gives everybody a chance to do something special like auditioning for choir or other music groups.
One of the most exciting things about the school year is Camp Week where all the children get to stay away from home for up to a day or two or a week and the experience is something that us children will be telling our kids about.
There's never a single monotonous moment at school because it's always filled with excitement or anxiety. Every single week from Monday to Wednesday at chapel we get taught a Southwell value from Mr Speedy so we can become wise and faithful people that we can count on.
