 YEAR 5 SYNDICATE
This year started with Swimming Sports at St Paul's. It was a fun day and we all tried our hardest. Great resilience was shown by each participant. An example of this was Raul. He tried his best and gave it his all. He may not have won, but he entered every race he could. I think we all could learn something from Raul. The rest of the swimming sport was very fast-moving. We had house relays and that was a great joy for all of us. With the sun shining we watched the finals. The winner overall was Quinn McLean-Bluck.
SPEECHES
One of the main topics for our speeches was reusing plastic. The main focus of this year’s speech was being environmentally cautious about plastic disposal. The semi finals were judged by Mrs Speedy and Ms Voss. The winner of the Year 5 speeches was Phoenyx Tiffany. The second place winner was Amelia Freyberg.
Some of us were involved in The Little Mermaid in this year’s Opera. Some of us auditioned and some of us didn’t. Many girls auditioned for the mersisters but sadly not many got in. But a few got to be maids or sea creatures.

YEAR 5 PRODUCTION
The Year 5 Production was about the Tarawera eruption.
We got split into groups. 5AR acted the Maori perspective, 5JM acted the Euoropeon perspective and 5PM acted the story of Papatuanuku and Ranganui (the separation of the earth and sky.)
In part of it we did a dance with ribbons and material.
We also did two songs in the production. All of us performed three times.
At the end of the show some of us got to hold letters or ferns.

 THE DEATH OF MAX
One very lonely day, mum came to tell me that we were going to the vet to put our dog, Max, down. I felt rage and terror boil up inside me. I burst into tears. I was yelling like a mad man. I was devastated. I thought it was over.
I trudged towards the car. My legs were like lead. I slumped into the ice cold car. When we got to the vet I saw dad and Max waiting for me. As soon as I saw Max I raced for him, my eyes gleaming with happiness. I opened my arms, welcoming him in. I hugged Max, shoving my face into his fur. I breathed the musty smell of his greying fur.
Sadness, happiness and anger swept through me. Sad, because it would be his last breaths. Happiness because I was with him. Anger - why was this happening?
It was a lonely day, a lonely week and a lonely month after Max died.
